Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under house arrest pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information emerged.

This involved trying to remove his ankle monitor and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could enable a chance to flee".

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the detention, Justice Moraes said data from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his escape.

Context of Sentencing
